The Maneater
The Maneater is the University of Missouri's official student newspaper, and it's the place that's taught me the most so far about being a journalist of all sorts. Over the three years I spent there, I worked in pretty much every section there except advertising and sports, but I've mainly been associated with the paper's online staff. I worked as an assistant online editor my sophomore year, serving as sort of a liaison between the print production staff and the online staff. During that time, I also helped produce the News Roundup podcast and helped Mike Tigas launch a new version of the site written in Django.
After that year, we restructured the online staff, and I became the online development editor alongside Online Content Editor Esten Hurtle. We launched plenty of new features — a campus guide for incoming freshmen, information on the 2008 general election, mapping within articles, etc. — and I ported the entire site from an in-between trunk version of Django 0.96 to version 1.0.2. (Not an easy task, given the number of changes in 1.0.)
