Legislation and interviews: daily tasks of a representative
Back when I worked more regularly as a page designer (a role I plan to return to in January at the Missourian), I ended up with this feature, in which one of our writers spent a day following Jeff Harris — then Missouri's House minority leader — and chronicling the day's events. I'd made plenty of timeline graphics before, but those seemed too linear and too boring for something like this, especially when I still had to figure out where to put photos and such.
I ended up with this design, which manages to keep some sort of continuity and flow while leaving enough space for everything else that needed to go on the spread. (Ever the stickler for detail, I did make sure those clock hands were exactly the angles they needed to be in order to be accurate. I blame the engineer in me — not that there's anything wrong with this.)
